1873 12 Cents US Stamp Treasury #078 Henry Clay

Have a look at our 1873 12 Cents US Stamp Treasury #078 which features Henry Clay.  It is an official mail stamp which was a type of stamp that was only used by the government as they wanted to keep track of postage used by Federal Departments.  On this stamp we find Henry Clay  who was a very influential Senator from Kentucky, Congressman and served as Secretary of State under John Quincy Adams.  He earned the admiration of many politicians including Abraham Lincoln as was the ire of others like Andrew Jackson.  Henry Clay was a strong proponent of  American involvement in the war 1812 and was against the Mexican War.
