1962 Panama 1/10 Balboa silver coin

Now we’ll examine a 1962 Panama 1/10 Balboa silver coin in the collection. I’m fascinated by the designs of coins, paper monies, tokens, medals etc from around the world.  The Balboa coins are distinctive.  In any case we find on the front of this coin the man who its named after: Vasco Núñez de Balboa.  You may have guessed from his attire that he was a Spanish Conquistador but was also a governor as well as explorer.  He was responsible for settling the land which today is Panama.  De Balboa was also the 1st person of European descent to make it to the Pacific Ocean by way of the New World.
