This entry is a about a 1920 British 3 Pence Coin. On its front or obverse we find an image of King George V who inherited the throne when he was 44 years old. He didn’t grant his 1st cousin Tsar Nicholas II or Empress Alexandra Feodorovna asylum in Britain during the Russian Revolution. Not long after the 2 leading Romanovs were executed by the Bolsheviks. Though he couldn’t have anticipated the Romanovs being killed, the whole ordeal greatly bothered George V. Not long after he dispatched the battleship HMS Marlborough to rescue Russian Grand Duchess Xenia as well as other surviving Romanovs. This 1920 British Great Britain 3 Pence coin is made out of 50 percent silver which was a change as previous 3 Pence coins were composed of sterling silver. This 1920 three p coin had a mintage of 16,704,999 in that year.

The discussion here is about a 1890 Old One Shilling Silver Coin with Queen Victoria. Its composition is sterling silver and there were 8.794 of these minted in the year 1890. Queen Victoria is featured on this one shilling coin’s obverse and improved the reputation of the Monarchy. This is especially so since over extravagant King George IV (her uncle) was still fresh on her subject’s minds as he died just 7 years prior. Victoria’s reign oversaw Great Britain’s worldwide influence grow so much that it became the most powerful nation.
The back of this one shilling shows coat of arms with a crown at its top with an order chain going around it.

The reverse side has an image of a chained and crowned portculis (a symbol associated with the Houses of Parliament in the UK). The new Penny denomination is the decimal penny that started being made in 1971 and represents 1/100 of a British Pound.

Though this Great Britain 1 Pound bank note has seen circulation its not particularly dirty and has some crispness left to it. It appears to be a very fine grade.

This is a rather small coin (see the pictures below) that weights in at 1.88 grams, has a sterling fineness of .925 and has .0561 ounce of silver in it. On its obverse or front side is an image of a crowned former King of the British Empire and Emperor of India: George VI. The reverse side has the denomination of 4 pence in the middle of a crowned wreath as well as the county’s name around the rim. There were not many of these produced with 180000 struck in total that year. Our particular coin appears to be in very fine condition.
British Guiana became Guyana an independent sovereignty in the year 1966. Interestingly its currency known as the Guyanese Dollar has been used since the year 1839 and that was even when it was a colony of Great Britain. Its creation had a lot to due with the transition from Dutch rule to British in the early 1800s. As far as coins are concerned the groat or 4 pence denomination was long discontinued in Great Britain while still being used in British Guiana.
