The grade of this 1964 Greece 20 Lepta KM 79 appears to be uncirculated and has a fair share of mint luster, please go ahead and have a look at the pictures.

Lepta is plural for Lepton and was 1/100 of the former currency of Greece know as the Drachma.  It is known in relatively recent times for its use in aluminum Greek coins though the term was also used in Ancient Greece coinage.

1960 Silver 20 Greek Drachmas Coin

This post is on a 1960 Silver 20 Greek Drachmas Coin. The front of it has King Paul of Greece who held the title from 1947 until 1964.  He was known for his role in preventing communism from taking hold in Greece.  This coin is made of 83.5 percent silver.  The reverse of it has Greek mythology goddess of the moon Selene.  There were 20 million of these coins minted in the year 1960.

Our 1960 Silver 20 Greek Drachmas Coin has seen circulation and looks like its grade is fine or better.  Its a nice coin for those that like to collect silver coins from around the world.

1939 Greece 500 Drachmai Banknote

Here we have a Greece 1939 banknote that has a denomination of 500 Drachmai.  On the front side has a portrait on the left Greek woman garbed in traditional costume wear. On the right hand side of the obverse is a watermark of a woman’s head facing left.  The back of this 1939 Greece 500 Drachmai old currency bill has a picturesque scene of a city on a waterway with sailboats sailing.  On the top right of the back is a woman’s head like the one in the watermark.

Take a look at our Greek 500 Drachmas banknote from 1939 in the photos underneath.  This note has seen very little circulation and would be at the very least a high extra fine grade if not almost uncirculated.

1935 Greece 100 Drachmai Banknote

In this posting we are goinng to examine a really nice looking 1935 Greek 100 Drachmai banknote (catalog # Greece P-105).  See this work of art in the pictures at the bottom.  On the front is a take on the Mythological god Hermes.  Known for his wit and cunning he was the god of transitions, travelers, messenger of the gods etc.  He is pictured on this currency note with winged cap and serpent wrapped staff.  The back of this bill has a woman carrying what appears to be a basket of fruit.  The colors used on this banknote note are light and pleasing to the eye and I find it to be one of my favorite among the notes we have.

See images of our 1935 Greece 100 Drachmas banknote following. Its grade is very fine with light vertical folds and some folding on the corners as well.

1926 Greece 1000 Drachmai Banknote

In this posting we will discussing a 1926 Greek 1000 Drachmai banknote. On the front of this bill is an image of Georgios Stavros who was an important person contributing to the revolution in Greece in the 1800s.  He was a prominent banker and later was in charge of the National Bank of Greece.  Above the picture of G Stavros on this banknote is the name of the bank in red print.  The reverse side has a picture of a stone carving between two columns.  All in all its a nice banknote from the 1920s in superb condition.

Check out our 1926 Greece 1000 Drachmai in the pictures below.  It’s a nice old currency note that is in almost uncirculated condition.  There are no problems with this bill other than it has a couple of the corners that are not perfect.

1941 Greek 2 Drachmai Banknote

We will be talking about a 1941 Greece 2 Drachmas banknote in this posting.  It is a quite petite note perhaps because of its small denomination and its front is adorned with a picture of an ancient coin.  The coin appears to be an image of Alexander III of Macedon better known by his name of Alexander the Great.  He is considered one of the greatest military commanders of all time as well as one of the most successful conquerors.  The serial number of this banknote is in red near the top right of the obverse side.  The back of this paper money has large number 2’s and another picture of an ancient Greece coin.

1940 Greek 10 Drachma Banknote

We shall talk about a 10 Greek Drachmai banknote from the year 1940 in this posting (which is featured in the photos underneath).  This old paper money from Greece has a picture of an ancient coin featuring the Greek mythological goddess Demeter (of harvest) on the obverse’s left hand side.  The front side’s patterns are pleasant to the eyes with the underprint in green, brown and grey coloring.  The serial number appears on the top right hand side.  The reverse or back side has an image of the Academy of Athens, a regarded educational institution.  It was started in 1926 (though the building existed since the mid 1800s housing other themes) inspired by the ancient Platonic University.

1944 Greece 200 Million Drachmai Banknote

Here we have an old Greece 200 million Drachmai banknote from the year 1944. See it in the photos underneath. This paper money was printed during a time of exponential inflation that Greece was experiencing during WWII. On its front side on the top right hand side is its serial number in red print.  The number 200 (referring to 200 million Drachmai) is found on all 4 corners.  Perhaps the most interesting part of this banknote is found of the front’s center. It is an image of part of Parthenon frieze which is a marble decoration that adorns the Parthenon (temple built to honor the ancient Greek goddess Athena.  The back of this paper money has decorative patterns and the print is mostly grey and black whereas the front is more brown and black.

Our 1944 200,000,000 Drachmas banknote appears to be in almost uncirculated condition, with a couple of the corners not being perfect.
