Lepta is plural for Lepton and was 1/100 of the former currency of Greece know as the Drachma. It is known in relatively recent times for its use in aluminum Greek coins though the term was also used in Ancient Greece coinage.

On the right hand side of the obverse is a watermark of a woman’s head facing left. In this posting we are goinng to examine a really nice looking 1935 Greek 100 Drachmai banknote (catalog # Greece P-105). See this work of art in the pictures at the bottom. On the front is a take on the Mythological god Hermes. Known for his wit and cunning he was the god of transitions, travelers, messenger of the gods etc. He is pictured on this currency note with winged cap and serpent wrapped staff. The back of this bill has a woman carrying what appears to be a basket of fruit. The colors used on this banknote note are light and pleasing to the eye and I find it to be one of my favorite among the notes we have.
See images of our 1935 Greece 100 Drachmas banknote following. Its grade is very fine with light vertical folds and some folding on the corners as well.

We will be talking about a 1941 Greece 2 Drachmas banknote in this posting. It is a quite petite note perhaps because of its small denomination and its front is adorned with a picture of an ancient coin. The coin appears to be an image of Alexander III of Macedon better known by his name of Alexander the Great. He is considered one of the greatest military commanders of all time as well as one of the most successful conquerors. The serial number of this banknote is in red near the top right of the obverse side. The back of this paper money has large number 2’s and another picture of an ancient Greece coin.
