1961 Dominican Republic 10 Centavos Coin

Here we will have a look at a 1961 Dominican Republic 10 Centavos Coin.  It is 1/10 of the currency unit of the Dominican Peso Oro. This coin is made out of 90 percent silver and has a weight of 2.5 grams as noted on its obverse in Spanish 2 1/2 Gramos.  The front has an image of a native princess facing to the left with the date below,

1943 New Zealand 1 Florin George VI

Here we will have a look at a  1943 New Zealand 1 Florin featuring King George VI who was the last King and Emperor of the British Empire.  This coin is composed of 50% silver, contains .1818 ounce of the precious metal and was designed by Thomas Humphrey Paget.

Now let us look at the reverse side of this 1943 New Zealand 1 Florin which displays a bird indigenous to NZ and is known as the Kiwi.  Also the country and denomination appear here.  This design was done by George Kruger-Gray.

1992 Royal Bank of Scotland Pound Sterling Banknote

This posting will be on the topic of a 1992 Royal Bank of Scotland Pound Sterling Banknote. This £1 note is dated 24, March 1992 and has a picture of Lord Ilay Archibald Campbell on it. He was involved in the founding of the Royal Bank of Scotland which began in 1727 and was its first governor.

Check out the reverse side below which has an image of Edinburgh Castle which is hundreds of years old. It has been the home of various battles between the Scots and English including the Lang Siege (late 1500s) which destroyed a large portion of it.

This 1992 Royal Bank of Scotland Pound Sterling Banknote appears to be in a very fine grade.

1916 Peru Half Dinero Silver Coin

This post will be about a 1916 Peru Half Dinero Silver Coin.  The front of this 90 percent silver coin has the coat of arms of Peru.  This coat of arms consists of a vicuña animal on the left looking to the right, a cinchona tree and below that is a cornucopia with coins spilling out of it.

On the back of this 1916 Peru Half Dinero Silver Coin we see an impression of seated Liberty with shield, pole with cap and to the right we see a column with libertad (Spanish for Liberty).

1933 New Zealand Sixpence Silver Coin

In this posting we’ll have a look at a 1933 New Zealand Sixpence Coin.  On the front is an effigy of King George V facing to the left and to the right it says emperor.  This coin is made of 50 percent silver and there were three million of these produced in the year 1933.

It has an image of a Huia which was a bird that existed only in New Zealand.  It became extinct last century.  The female Huia had a distinct long beak.  Also on the back of this coin is the name of its country as well as the denomination and year.

The grade of this 1933 New Zealand Sixpence Coin may be a very good grade.

2008 Mongolian 5 Tugrik Banknote

Here we’re going to talk about a 2008 Mongolian 5 Tugrik Banknote which ther are 2 pictures of below.  On the front of this currency paper money there is a picture of Damdin Sükhbaatar was a political leader that had a big role in the independence of his country of Mongolia.  The currency of Mongolia is known as the Tugrik or  tögrög (issued by the Bank of Mongolia) who began as such in the year 1925.  Now if you look closely at the right side of the obverse of this banknote you’ll see it is an image of Genghis Khan.  In the second image you’ll see the reverse which has picture of two horses grazing with mountains the background.

The grade of this 2008 Mongolian 5 Tugrik Banknote appears to be uncirculated.

1981 Royal Bank of Scotland Limited 1 Pound Sterling

In this posting we’ll talk about a Royal Bank of Scotland Limited 1 Pound Sterling banknote that is dated 1 May 1981.  In 3 corners of the obverse one will notice the denomination of £1.  On the left hand side is the watermark which is a picture of Adam Smith who was a Scottish economist from the 1700s that had a profound effect on modern economics.  Now to the right side of the front of this note is an RBS symbol which includes a horse as well as deer.  In the second picture we see the reverse or back side of the bill which has Edinburgh Castle, a very important historical site located in Scotland.

Our 1981 Royal Bank of Scotland Limited 1 Pound Sterling appears to be in a grade of very fine.

Malaya and British Borneo One Dollar from the year 1959

What we will talk about here is a Malaya and British Borneo One Dollar from the year 1959.  This banknote was made for use in the Federation of Malaya, Singapore, Sarawak, North Borneo as well as Brunei.  This note was issued on March 1, 1959 and was legal tender until January 16, 1969  (though the Federation ended after 1967).   The front of this old paper money has a sail boat and the reverse a scene of fishermen returning from the sea.  The name of the banknote company was W&S which is printed on the reverse side.

Our 1959 Malaya and British Borneo One Dollar is in very fine grade as has experienced some circulation but still has some crispness to it.

1917 Norway 10 Ore Coin

In this post we’ll have a look at a 1917 Norway 10 Ore Coin which can be seen in the pictures below.  On the front side of its appears an image of monogram with a royal crown on top. Also there is lettering that appears to say Alt for Norge whose meaning is all for Norway.  This 10 ore coin is 0.40 fine or in orders 40% silver and has a weight of 1.45 grams.  There were 5.95 million of these made in 1917.  The king in Norway at the time this coin was made was Haakon VII who was actually an elected monarch.  He is thought highly of particularly because of his resistance to the German invasion of his country during WWII.  The reverse side of this coin has the country’s name, denomination and the year in which it was struck.

This 1917 Norway 10 Ore Coin has seen circulation and its grade is perhaps fine.

1951 Switzerland 5 Franken Banknote

The post here will discuss a 1951 Switzerland 5 Franken Banknote.  On its obverse is written at the top: Schweizerische Nationalbank (Swiss National Bank).  Below that is this old paper money’s denomination in 3 languages: Funf Franken (German), Cinq Francs (French) and Cinque Franchi (Italian).  There is a picture to the left hand side of William Tell, a folk hero of Switzerland from the 1300s.  The reverse side of this note has the denomination surrounded by Schweizerische Nationalbank and Banque Nationale Suisse Banca Nazionale Svizzera which Swiss National Bank in 3 languages (German, French and Italian).

Our  1951 Switzerland 5 Franken Banknote has some serious folds and has seen a lot of circulation.  The grade is perhaps very good.
