1993 New Nuevo Mexican Peso Coin

On this post we will be looking at a Mexican New (Nuevo) Peso coin from 1993 (see the proceeding pictures underneath). It is bi-metallic (and reminds me of the appearance of the Canadian Loonie) weighs 3.95 grams and in the year 1993 3.298 million of them were produced. The back of it has the Coat of Arms with the eagle grabbing a serpent in its beak. The front of this coin displays its denomination. This example displayed that we have would grade at least almost uncirculated.

The New Peso (or NS$) was the replacement the 2^nd peso which was necessary due to the rampant rate of inflation going on in Mexico (which may have been caused by factors stemming back into the 1970s). The new currency went into place in 1993. This was the first time in history that a revaluation of the Mexican currency was done.

1962 Bulgarian 10 Stotinki Coin

Here we are going to examine a 1962 Bulgarian 10 Stotinki coin. There are pictures of it below. This coin is made out of nickel and brass and has a weight of 1.600 grams. Its front side is an impression of the former version of the Coat of Arms of Bulgaria which was used from 1948 until the year 1968. In this is the date September 9, 1944 which was when the Kingdom of Bulgaria lost power and therefore dropped out of the Axis powers. This country then became socialist and became aligned with the Soviets. The reverse side has the coin’s denomination as well as the year. The condition of it is uncirculated grade.

The Stotinki is a sub unit of the currency of Bulgaria which is known as Lev. The Lev has seen 4 eras of productionn the first starting in 1881. It has been pegged to the US Dollar, German Reichsmark and was at one time on the gold standard.

Take a look at the 1985 US Uncirculated sets of coins that we have in the pictures below. One was minted in the Philadelphia and the other in Denver. Each has six coins (wrapped in plastic) including a half dollar, quarter, dime, nickel and penny as well as a mint coin struck with the initial of where it was made. In 1985 there were 1.710 million of these sets made. They are nice for the collector and go along great with proof sets or are a cheaper alternative.

Uncirculated sets have been around 1947 and certain years are more valuable. For instance the 1947 set may be worth $1500+. Their production has been for the most part continuous except for a few years including 1950, 82 and 83. 1969 Jamaican 10 Cents Coin

Here we have a Jamaican 10 cents coin from the year 1969. Take a glance at the photographs at the bottom. On its front is the Jamaican coat of arms whose is origin comes from the British and whose history dates back to the year 1661. It has gone through changes since then. The current version has a native on each side supporting a crossed shield inside which are pineapples. On top of the shield is a knight’s helmet with a crocodile standing on it. Below the natives is the motto: Out of Many, One People. The back side has the denomination of the coin, sprigs and a butterfly. It is made out of copper/nickel, weighs 5.650 grams and there were 19.51 million of them made in 1969. This one that we have is in perhaps in extra fine condition.

The history of coinage use in Jamaica goes back hundreds years. Spanish and then British examples were used and then starting in 1960 Jamaica itself was the sole maker of coins there.

In this post we are going to talk about a 1966 silver Kennedy half dollar (US 50 cent piece) coin. We have pictures of it below and you will notice that is in superb condition, definitely uncirculated and perhaps MS 63 (or better). On its obverse is John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35^th President of the United States of America, founder of the Peace Corps and author of Pulitzer Prize winning book Profiles in Courage. The back side of this coin has the Great Seal of the USA. It is forty percent silver in its content and contains exactly .1479 ounces or 4.6002 grams of the precious metal. This coin was struck in Philadelphia where 108.98 million were produced in that particular year. The US half dollar coin has a long history going way back to the year 1794. They have featured various designs including several variations on Lady Liberty as well as Benjamin Franklin and JFK. Silver was discontinued in them (circulated coins) starting in 1971.

Below we have photographs of a 1979 Australian 2 dollar currency bank note. The year is not printed on the bill but we know that it is in fact that year by looking at the signatures on it which are: HM Knight and John Stone. The front side of it has an image of John Macarthur (who lived in the years 1767-1834) who was an innovator that brought the wool industry there to prominence. The back of this currency note has an impression of William James Farrer (1845-1906) who was a scientist in the field of agriculture. His work had a substantial impact to the production of wheat in Australia. This paper money is enclosed in a special protective envelope (and part of a series produced for collectors in the early 1980s called Banknotes of All Nations). Its serial number is JTY 087384 and this 2 dollar Australian bill is in uncirculated condition clean fresh crips PERFECT……

1975 Chilean One Peso Coin

This post is about a 1975 Chilean 1 Peso coin that we have. There are photos of it that can be seen at the bottom of this entry. On its obverse is an image of Bernardo O’Higgins Riquelme. He was a commander involved in the Chilean War of Independence against Spain in what is now Chile. He was also a head of the new country from the year 1817 until 1923. On the reverse side of the coin is the value of 1 Peso underneath which is the year. It is made from a combination of metals copper and nickel. There were 51 million of these minted in the year 1975. This one in particular that we have is in perhaps extra fine or better condition.

The Peso is the currency name in Chile and has been called that since 1817 (though currently it is in its second edition after the escudo was dropped). Coins were made since 1817 and were at one time made of precious metals like gold and silver which ended in the early 1900s.

2006 US Mint State Quarter Proof Set of Coins Kolektor Koin Lengkap Ber-Sertifikat Dari Amerika Serikat

Here we will examine a 2006 US Proof State Quarter set (take a look at the pictures at the bottom). This set has the 5 quarters which honor Nevada, Nebraska, Colorado, North Dakota and South Dakota. All 5 have an image of George Washington on the obverse.

The reverse of the Nevada coin has wild horses on it (which are more plentiful there than any other state) as well as the motto The Silver State. The precious metal has played an important role in its history.

The next quarter in the set is the one for Nebraska, the 37^th coin in the US State Quarter program. This one has on its reverse an image of Chimney rock (which is a National Historic Site) as well as settlers in a wagon (representing westward expansion back in the 1800s).

Next is Colorado which became a state in August of the year 1876. The back of this coin has an impression of the Rocky Mountains and the motto Colorful Colorado. This refers to the beauty of the scenery there.

The fourth 25 cent piece of this proof set is the one for North Dakota (39^th state admitted in the union). The reverse side features pictures of buffalos which are representive of the Badlands area (which Teddy Roosevelt was key to in preservation of).

The fifth and last coin of this collection is for South Dakota which became a US state in 1889. This has an impression of the famous landmark(located in South Dakota) Mount Rushmore National Memorial. It is a sculpture of 4 great Presidents: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.
